From delivery to software: the story of LOXBOX and LinX

Before it built LinX, LOXBOX was a delivery company. It was out in the field, parcels in hand, that we understood what carriers really need. And that field experience has shaped every version of our platform ever since.

It started with a delivery company that wanted to innovate

The adventure began in Greater Tunis with a simple observation: home delivery alone is not enough. Recipients are not always at home, couriers keep coming back and every failed attempt is costly. So we built a network of around thirty pickup points across Greater Tunis, where people could collect their parcels whenever suited them.

Smart lockers, 100% Tunisian

The next step was bolder: designing and manufacturing our own automated lockers, the LOXBOX Smartlockers. Everything was developed in Tunisia: the embedded system that drives the compartments, the metal structure and the software that orchestrates drop-offs and pickups.

That project taught us to master the whole chain, from hardware to software, and to think of delivery as a complete system rather than a series of isolated tasks.

The strategic choice: focusing on software

By running pickup points, lockers and delivery rounds ourselves, we developed an increasingly complete in-house tool. We then made a defining decision: to step away from logistics and specialise in what we did best, a platform able to run a delivery company end to end.

One platform, many jobs: each profile has its own access, designed for the way it works. Administrators, agencies and sorting centres, couriers, pickup points and e-commerce senders all work on the same data, each with the tools they need.

LinX v1, v2, v3: three versions, the same standard

• LinX v1Born while we were still delivering ourselves, it was tested every day on our own rounds, in real field conditions.
• LinX v2The version that proved itself: validated first in Tunisia, then around the world with delivery companies of very different profiles.
• LinX v3Even more innovative: a completely redesigned interface for a much better experience, real-time GPS tracking of couriers, a platform you can customise down to its colour, a faster-than-ever dispatch dashboard and many new features.

The newest member of the family, LinX MAPP, puts these tools in the hands of independent couriers launching their own business.

Awards that recognise the team's work

This journey has been recognised several times. Among other distinctions, LOXBOX won:

• 1st prize in the Open Startup Tunisia (OST) programme, in 2022;
• 1st prize at WIDU.africa;
• 1st prize at Riyeda, in 2022;
• 1st prize at the Forum DSI.

Programmes that helped us grow

No start-up grows alone. LOXBOX has been supported by several programmes of the ecosystem, each at a different stage:

• RedStart Tunisie, where it all began;
• Open Startup Tunisia (OST), whose first prize we won;
• WIDU.africa, a programme funded by German development cooperation and implemented by GIZ to support businesses in Africa;
• Impact Partner and its Samsung FastTrack programme for tech start-ups with social impact;
• The Dot, Tunis's digital innovation hub, with the support of its experts.

Heading to Italy and the Leonardo supercomputer

Our journey also took us to Italy, to visit Leonardo, one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world, hosted by the CINECA consortium at the Bologna Tecnopolo. An immersion at the heart of one of Europe's largest computing infrastructures, which fed our vision: building robust logistics tools that can scale.

What's next?

Today, LOXBOX Services is fully dedicated to LinX and LinX MAPP, from its offices in Tunis and Lyon. More than 20 delivery companies rely on the LinX network in Tunisia, and every new version still starts from the same place: the field.
